Well, according to Southern Mets insider, Jim D. in the ATL, Braves fans are pissed about John Smoltz signing with the Red Sox. They are calling him a "greedy bastard" and a "sellout". That sure reminds me of another former Braves pitcher that left, Tom Glavine. They sure hated that. Here is my take...while Glavine did pitch for the Mets, I never considered him a Met. I rooted for him and everything, but he to me was always a Brave. I mean did he ever beat the Braves when he was in a Met uniform? I was there for his first game back in Atlanta and he got lite up like the Rockerfeller Christmas tree. It wasn't pretty.
So with this move by Smoltz, it appears that the Braves are going to try and fill in their rotation and according to sources, they are scheduled to meet with Derek Lowe tomorrow. If I am the Mets, it is time to ante up. One thing I think the Mets have that the Braves don't is a chance to win the World Series. Lowe is 36, and I am sure that being on a contender is another of his priorities. I hope the Mets get Lowe and throw it back in the face of the Braves.
